bright razor wire at the borders of words
hostile invasions by the hoarders of words

rigid laws enacted banning most writing -
to hide under the radar, shorten your words

a deadly disease spreads in the land -
cause of the outbreak? disorders of words

brownshirts stalked the government Suits
who met their end: murdered by words

moon cycles pass with society wounded
might anarchy wane, if reordered by words?

red blood cells pulsing with alphabet soup
circulating through the aortas of words

the resistance movement gathers momentum -
gaining power despite discord of words

now I, name inspired by Kipling's Kim,

write this small story, recorded in words

our broken world is sometimes stopped by joy
increasing empathy lets us adopt more joy

self-worth is often measured by possessions
but we will surely fail if we shop for joy

all the news chatter makes for confusion
a calming tactic is to co-opt some joy

natural and organic flushes out chemicals
the next step is to harvest a crop of joy

clear-eyed optimism is a radical option
instead of negative moods, opt for joy

for myself, instead of being wrapped tight,
I long to be a Kim who can be dropped by joy
