Ending in R

                for Clara Cid

First appeared in Umbrella

Taker of years, postpone her hour, her ending in R.
Deter your gnaw, your rattle, her dour ending in R.

Spar with the moon, a planet, rather, no holds to bar.
Traitor, peddler of luck, unsow her sour ending in R.

Mirror of ice, X-acto the cells that tether, that plunder.
Uncover the sortilege of jasmine's power ending in R.

Cantilever your plump thigh like a cancan dancer.
Hear the canary perched on a finger tower ending in R.

Server of time, now serve her vigor, then lavender.
Serve her kir. Jeer the cancer, devourer ending in R.

Poacher of hearts, trader of vows, tsar of this hour,
clear her, then hold her––luminous flower ending in R.

Ghazal for the Copa

"...it hurts not to be a champion."
                        Lionel Messi

We lost the Copa America. Enough for me, Argentina.
Ballon d'Or 5 times. Fame's no fluff for me, Argentina.

I was the first one to kick: my rocket ship missed the net.
Even Bravo, the goalie, winced. Tough for me, Argentina.

All my dreams to dazzle fizzled. Oh weep, Argentina.
Fourth time no International Cup for me, Argentina.

My magic went desaparecida. Chile, you won. Olé!
Your slender breeze twisted gusts for me, Argentina.

Return only with the trophy, hermano, said Maradona.
"No copa, no vuelvas!" No such luck for me, Argentina.

So Barthelona, here I come. Fix the tapas, mix sangría.
Screw the tango, Lionel. Don't lust for me, Argentina.
